On July 15, 2020, Twitter users began to notice that several high-profile accounts had been compromised. The accounts, which included those of Biden, Musk, West, and others, were used to tweet out a Bitcoin scam. The tweets, which were identical, claimed that the sender would double any Bitcoin sent to a specific address.
The post went viral. Within hours, it was shared by a popular environmental NGO, sparking a conversation about climate change’s impact on small‑scale fishermen. Jakol found himself invited to panel discussions, webinars, and even a televised interview where he talked about the “digital tide” that had lifted his voice.
