In traditional "damsel in distress" stories, the female lead is passive. She waits to be saved. In the Dredd collaborations, there is no savior. Marks' characters are often criminals, vagrants, or scavengers who are just as dangerous as the titular Dredd figure. The tension comes from watching two apex predators circle each other in a cage of concrete and steel.
