When he eventually passed away, the villagers named the tree Katawa no Sakura in memory of both him and the mother’s love that rooted it there.
As the tree grew, it developed a crooked, unbalanced form—mirroring the boy’s own physical condition. Yet each spring, despite its twisted branches, it produced the most beautiful flowers in the valley. Over time, the boy came to see that imperfection did not preclude beauty or purpose.
