The film is inspired by real events that took place in 2006 at the Nieuw Vosseveld prison in the Netherlands. A group of prisoners, led by a man named Joran van der Sloot (who was a suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway), hatch a plan to escape from the prison. The escape is meticulously planned and executed, with the prisoners using weaknesses in the prison's security system to their advantage.
