Culonas — Hermosas

The Hermosas Culonas festival has its roots in the town's history, dating back to the 1970s. The event was initially created to promote tourism and celebrate the region's beauty, but over time, it has evolved into a beloved tradition that honors the local women and their distinctive physical characteristics. The festival has become an integral part of Sincelejo's identity, attracting visitors from all over Colombia and beyond.

The term "culona" specifically refers to the Wayúu women's distinctive physical characteristic: a curvaceous figure, particularly in the buttocks and thighs. This feature is not only a hallmark of their beauty but also a symbol of fertility, prosperity, and femininity. In Wayúu culture, a woman's body is seen as a representation of her strength, beauty, and ability to bear children. The curvier a woman's figure, the more attractive and desirable she is considered. hermosas culonas
