Originally developed for applications requiring a robust, non-self-centering spline connection—such as agricultural machinery, heavy-duty gearboxes, and universal joint shafts—DIN 5462 has been largely superseded in modern German engineering by DIN 5480 (involute). However, it remains where compatibility with older ISO standards is required.
